Privacy Policy

Measured Matter collects only the information reasonably needed to operate our website, process orders, perform requested analytical services, prepare findings, communicate with customers, and securely return submitted items.

This Privacy Policy explains how Measured Matter (“Measured Matter,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, stores, and discloses information when you visit measuredmatter.com, place an order, submit an item for analysis, receive a Findings Report, contact us, or otherwise interact with our services.

  • Improve our testing procedures, reporting, website, and customer experience.
  • Comply with legal obligations and resolve disputes.

We may also use aggregated or de-identified information for analytical, educational, quality-control, statistical, or service improvement purposes when that information does not reasonably identify an individual customer.

Section 04

Submitted Items, Photographs & Findings Reports

Because Measured Matter provides physical analytical services, we create records that connect a submitted item to an order while the item is in our custody. These records help us maintain chain of identification, perform testing, prepare reports, and return the correct property to the customer.

Photographs of submitted items may be taken for intake documentation, identification, analytical documentation, reporting, quality assurance, or dispute resolution.

We do not publish personally identifying customer information or identifiable customer records for advertising or promotional purposes without permission.

We may use de-identified testing information, aggregated analytical data, or item imagery that has been separated from personally identifying customer information for internal training, quality control, research, education, or improvement of our services.

Section 05

Payment Information

Online payments for Measured Matter services are processed through third-party payment processor Stripe.

When you enter payment-card or other payment information during checkout, that information is transmitted to and processed by Stripe. Measured Matter does not need to receive or store your full payment-card number in order to process a normal online transaction.

We may receive transaction-related information from Stripe, including information such as payment status, transaction amount, transaction identifier, payment method type, refund information, and limited payment details necessary for order administration, accounting, fraud prevention, or dispute resolution.

Stripe processes information according to its own privacy practices and terms. You may review those practices through Stripe’s Privacy Center.

Section 06

Cookies, Analytics & Advertising

Measured Matter may use cookies and similar technologies for website functionality, security, analytics, advertising measurement, and understanding how customers find and use our website.

Google Advertising and Measurement

We may use Google advertising or measurement services, including Google Ads conversion measurement. These technologies may process information such as advertising click identifiers, cookies, device or browser information, page visits, and conversion events.

For example, if you reach our website after interacting with a Measured Matter advertisement and later place an order, advertising measurement technology may help determine that the advertisement resulted in a conversion.

Google and other service providers may use cookies or similar technologies according to their own privacy policies and the settings associated with your browser or Google account.

You can manage or disable many cookies through your browser settings. You can also manage Google’s advertising personalization settings through Google Ads Settings.

Disabling cookies may affect certain website functionality or reduce the accuracy of analytics and advertising measurement.

Where applicable law requires consent before certain cookies or advertising technologies are used, we intend to use those technologies in accordance with applicable consent requirements.

Section 07

When We Share Information

We do not disclose customer information indiscriminately. We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to operate our services, including to:

  • Payment processors, such as Stripe, for payment, refund, fraud-prevention, and transaction services.
  • Shipping carriers and shipping-service providers to deliver or return submitted items.
  • Website, hosting, security, email, or technology providers that help us operate our website and business.
  • Analytics and advertising providers for website measurement and advertising performance.
  • Analytical or specialist service providers when specialized equipment, measurement, or technical assistance is reasonably necessary to perform or support a service requested by the customer.
  • Professional advisers, such as accountants, attorneys, insurers, or other advisers, when reasonably necessary.
  • Government authorities or other parties when disclosure is required by law, legal process, court order, or reasonably necessary to protect rights, property, or safety.

If Measured Matter undergoes a merger, acquisition, sale, restructuring, or transfer of some or all of its business assets, information associated with the business may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to applicable law.

Section 08

Sale or Sharing of Personal Information

Measured Matter does not sell personal information for money.

We may use third-party analytics or advertising technologies as described above. Certain privacy laws may define some disclosures involving advertising or online identifiers as “sharing” even when no money is exchanged for the information.

We do not use the analytical composition of your submitted item or the contents of your Findings Report to create personalized advertising audiences.

Section 09

How Long We Keep Information

We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected and for legitimate business, accounting, tax, fraud-prevention, legal, quality-assurance, and dispute-resolution purposes.

Different types of records may be retained for different lengths of time. For example, transaction and accounting records may need to be retained longer than routine website logs.

We may retain analytical records and Findings Reports when reasonably useful for documenting work performed, responding to later customer questions, maintaining quality records, or defending against disputes.

Information may also be retained longer when required by law or when reasonably necessary in connection with an active legal, payment, insurance, fraud, or security matter.

Section 10

Information Security

Measured Matter uses reasonable administrative, technical, and physical measures intended to protect customer and order information from unauthorized access, loss, misuse, alteration, or disclosure.

We also use third-party service providers for functions such as payment processing where those providers maintain systems designed specifically for handling sensitive transaction information.

No website, electronic transmission, storage system, or security procedure can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Accordingly, we cannot guarantee absolute security of information transmitted to or maintained by us.

Section 11

Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live and which laws apply, you may have certain rights regarding personal information associated with you. These may include rights to:

  • Request information about personal information we maintain about you.
  • Request access to certain personal information.
  • Request correction of inaccurate personal information.
  • Request deletion of certain personal information.
  • Request information regarding certain disclosures of personal information.
  • Exercise other privacy choices provided by applicable law.

Privacy rights are subject to applicable legal requirements, limitations, exemptions, and verification procedures. For example, we may need to retain certain transaction records even after a deletion request when they are required for accounting, tax, security, fraud-prevention, legal, or dispute-resolution purposes.

We may need to verify your identity before responding to a request involving personal information.

We will not unlawfully discriminate against an individual for exercising a privacy right provided by applicable law.

Section 12

Children’s Privacy

Measured Matter’s services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly solicit personal information directly from children under 13 through our website.

If we learn that we have collected personal information directly from a child under 13 in circumstances where such collection is not permitted, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.

Section 13

Third-Party Websites & Services

Our website may contain links to websites, payment services, or other services operated by third parties.

This Privacy Policy applies to Measured Matter’s practices and does not control the independent privacy practices of third parties such as payment processors, shipping carriers, advertising platforms, or external websites.

We encourage you to review the privacy information provided by any third-party service you use.

Section 14

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as our services, technology, vendors, or legal obligations change.

When we make changes, we will update the “Effective and last updated” date shown at the top of this page. Material changes may be communicated through additional notice when appropriate.

We encourage visitors and customers to review this page periodically.
